facilitate workshops

We facilitate processes that encourage dialogue, analysis and provoke a rethink on the dominant power relations and explore rights, gender, participation and communication to challenge the "culture of silence".

We carry out learning needs assessments (LNAs), design and develop modules and handbooks, facilitate workshops, provide handholding support and document learning processes.

Our workshops bring together participants from diverse backgrounds.
Our past workshops have been attended by community volunteers, development workers from non-profits, donor agencies & government departments; activists from campaigns & movements; theatre and media practitioners; students and faculty members, children and young people, farmers and workers

We invite you to an exciting, engaging and enriching learning journey!

If you would like to host or participate in any of our workshops, please email workshops at vikalpkriya dot in

In the background of an all pervading culture of silence, how do we facilitate liberatory processes and practices whereby groups and communities build critical thinking, assess their everyday reality, challenge dominant power relations, reclaim control over collective spaces, tell their own stories and sing their own songs for cultural action.

The workshop, informed by the works of Paulo Freire and Augusto Boal, will adopt an experiential learning process to create thought-provoking dialogue around social and environmental justice.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have practiced participatory play-making, performed theatre pieces and honed their skills in facilitating theatre processes with groups and communities.

With the belief that each one of us have the right to “act”, we welcome anyone interested in exploring theatre as an empowering process to rehearse change.

About the facilitators: Anju Uppal & Prabir Bose

Their journey as theatre practitioners, for over 25 years now, includes being part of an amateur theatre group, scripting and directing performances, engaging in community theatre and
facilitating theatre workshops across the country.

Prabir has been a visiting faculty at School of Media and Cultural Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) for more than 20 years. Both Anju and Prabir have been co-facilitating a course - Participatory Theatre for Development - at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) for over 10 years now.

Recently Anju and Prabir were invited to perform “Conversations around a dilemma” as part of Theatre From The Streets, a pilot project of New Perspectives Theatre Company, New York with artists from Palestine & Lebanon, Venezuela and India.

Superman ka Best Friend,
a one-act play written and directed by Anju and Prabir, is about children not being mute witness to the outside world even if they remain unheard. Set in the backdrop of the pandemic, the performance creates a space for both children and adults to deepen a conversation around “development” and reimagine a better world.
In an intimate theatre format, the play is performed for small gatherings in alternative performing spaces, academic institutions, workplace, neighbourhoods and even people's homes.
